Maybe my 2 years in the army gave me a pretty Spartan attitude towards life a thought that occurred to me yesterday, but I don’t think that there’s anything of value to be gotten from life unless we’re ready to suffer for it to a certain extent, be it in the form of delaying gratification, of enduring ‘droughts’ in life, being responsible for the people we deal with or whatever. Like the Little Prince who saw that it was the effort he spent on his rose that made her so valuable to him.

Same with sex, I think. We often seem to be presenting it as a cheap and rapid source of self-affirmation ‘I’m having sex, therefore I am’ or fun, and somehow fail to teach our youths that it’s most of all about sharing intimacy, giving more than taking and sometimes I wonder if people forgot about that one the possibility of having kids, all of which should include a certain degree of responsibility. But responsibility and commitment aren’t ‘in’, somehow, are they?

Personally, as strange as it may sound and notwithstanding all the ‘frigjord’-thinking about sex which doesnt feel free at all, but more like having swapped one prejudice for another, I think that those youths who have a more ‘conservative’ is it really? attitude towards sex are the true rebels today, certainly in Sweden. Contrarily to the mainstream they don’t let their behaviour and opinions be dictated by superficial opinion-making magazines and the majority’s views.

Det där med "consumerist attitude" var huvudet på spiken tycker jag. Och känslor och närhet talar vi inte alls om. Men jag tycker dagens medelålders har ett stort ansvar. INgen vågar säga eller uppvisa en mer konservativ attityd än dagens "knulla med vem som helst"-attityd av rädsla för att inte vara cool och "frigjord".
