An update on that: Wall Street Journal Deputy Editor Bret Stephens wrote a column yesterday called "The President of Contempt," which, without using the word "narcissism," insightfully described Nerobamas
symptoms. Stephens reviews, with quotes, Obamas years of contempt for his enemies, from Hillary Clinton during the campaign, to blaming the Bush Administration for all his ills, to the recent racist attack on the Congressional Black Caucus.

Stephens notes about Obamas "cool" image that "between flattery and admiration there often flows a river of contempt." He then concludes:
"Listening to Mr. Obama, especially now that the country is turning against him, one senses in him a certain disenchantment: America is lovable exactly in proportaion to the love it gives him in return."

And, not to mention this sourze "the Hill": If the President and the Senate Majority Leader were of two different parties, some of whats reported in a story, today, by The Hills Alexander Bolton, might be
expected; that is, the two sides being somewhat less than cordial
with each other. But in fact, theyre of the same party and are pissing all over each other. President Obamas lack of respect for the Senate Democrats, who, after all, only make up a slim majority in the Senate, and a vulnerable one at that, is shown by an account of a recent conference between Obama and top Democratic senators. According to Boltons account, Obama left top Senate Democrats hanging on a conference call for 20 minutes before White House National Economic Director Gene Sperling finally came on the phone with only a vague idea of what the call was supposed to be about.

While this particular incident amounted only to a minor breach of protocol, it added to the friction that has been building between the two sides for a long time. Obama relies on Reid to get Democrats on board his program, because he doesnt like to work the phones himself, and telephone conversations between the two can be terse. "One Democratic source quipped that its often a contest to guess who will hang up on the other first," reports Bolton. "Reid, as it turns out, doesnt have a habit of saying goodbye when he ends a call."

As a result, Obama and Reid are on divergent paths. While Obama is stumping for his jobs plan, Reid is pursuing an agenda designed to get vulnerable Democratic senators re-elected in 2012, something, they complain, Obamas not very interested in of 33 Senators up for re-election in 2012, ten are Republican incumbents and 23 are Democrats, and the Democratic majority is only four seats. Reid started this week off with legislation designed to punish China for allegedly manipulating its currency, a measure that wont get too far, while putting the jobs bill and pending free-trade deals on the back burner. Meanwhile, the country continues to go down the tubes.
