I by the way wrote my thesis about the social construction of science, demonstrating how scientific agricultural research was used to shape the political reality in Brazil. My own life lesson from this exercise was to become extremely skeptical of any scientific claim thats being made.

Pure science does not exist. It is always linked to specific political/economical interests. Especially when it deals with the scientific study of human behaviour.

Sure, I cant argue about mathematics being pure. But do check Lewontins book, if you find the time. Scientists are also only people, and pure science is hardly ever to be found. Personal preferences, agendas, politics, economical interests... its all to be found even in labs especially there, actually

Mind me, Im a sociologist at heart, working in a technical agricultural university. Its our job to question everything that em technicians do. So what Im saying isnt pure either... ;

He-he : Well, Im on the "other side". A reasearching engineer. I think that perhaps our not so different views on science can be related to our different working areas.
