Karl X Gustavs härjningar i Polen hade samma effekt som trettioåriga kriget för Tyskland. Ett svaghetstillstånd uppkom fram till Tysklands enande 1870. Enligt A History of Polish Culture:" The effect of this century of wars was the maintenance of status quo, the retentionbevarande of the countrys independence, allmost lost due to the Swedish invasion of 1655, commonly called "the Deluge".
