dr donald tashkin på ucla har sedan 1983 forskat om marijuanas effekter på lungorna. 1997 rapporterade han följande: "in contrast to the accelerated anual rate of decline in lung function that occurs in regular tobacco smokers of comparable age.. findings in the present study do not support an association between even heavy, regular marijuana smoking and development of chronic obstructive lung disease."

"marijuana smokers probably will not develop emphysema."
