I think the best "lifetime employment" guarantee is to design products that people want to buy, to build them properly, and to respect your employees. Too many companies view employees as a cost to get rid of rather than viewing them as an investment to care for over time. Toyota finds so many ways to add value and to cut costs that they dont have to resort to layoffs.
