It was only when during a field research in Brazil I did development studies I became friends with some landless farmers that I really felt how disgraceful the existence of poverty and hunger is. Its a bit like Thomas Merton a monk and peace activist wrote, that in the end its only personal relations that really save the day if you want I could look up the whole quote. I already wrote it once in a comment to an article by P.Poulsen.
