As a believer in our free will I agree with you that were shaped by our environment, but Im also convinced that how we let that environment influence ourselves is ultimately our own decision. The Art of Life is making life into a piece of art says Gandhi, and I see my background and surroundings as the material I have to make my own little piece. This means that my self shows itself not in the material, but in the way it is arranged, if you see what I mean.
