Michael, the issue here is according to me the pretense the music industry makes to sell its products, its marketing. Programmers do exactly what they say they do: write programs. Commercial musicians on the other hand are sold with a made up background, character and so on, creating the illusion of being authentic while in fact being as generic as it gets.
